Marin Activities

About Marin:

Prestigious Marin County, located across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, has more protected land than any other city in the USA.  Fought for and preserved by generations of nature advocates, an unprecedented 4 state parks, 2 National Recreation Areas, 1 national monument, and thousands of acres of protected water shed land are available to the people for recreational use and enjoyment.  Large open space areas can be accessed via the National, State and County Parks. The Golden Gate National Recreation area covers not just San Francisco, but Marin County as well.  Leave "the city" (San Francisco), drive or bike, or walk across the Golden Gate Bridge to reach recreational paradise.

Follow the Golden Gate Bridge, North from San Francisco, to beautiful Marin County!

Visit Marin and enjoy Marin Headlands, Point Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods National Monument, Mount Tamalpais State Recreation area, Samuel P. Taylor Park, Olompali State Park and China Camp State Park - just to start.

Marin Headlands, Point Reyes National Seashore, Tomales Bay, Muir Woods National Monument, Mount Tamalpais, Samuel P. Taylor Park,  Olompali State Park and China Camp State Park are just some of the few areas available for nature or View enthusiasts.  Marin is also is very known for it's devotion to organics.  Out in beautiful West Marin, local organic agriculture is showing the world how it is done.

Not to be missed is Marin's beautiful beaches; the most popular beach,  Stinson , sits along the Pacific on the other side of Mt Tamalpais, and makes great skim boarding and surfing.

In Marin there is practically every activity available “to do” for every type of personality.

Great off beat activities like rock climbing, bouldering, hang gliding, wind surfing, surfing, skimboarding, car racing, and whale watching are just some of Marin's appeal.  Other, less demanding activities like top notch golf, amazing hiking, fishing, mushroom hunting as well as something simple as wildflower exploring.

Activities extreme, mellow, or high end are all available in Marin.  Try shopping for example. Shop top notch stores like Nordstrom, or unique boutiques in Ross downtown.  Perhaps just dine on Sausalito's waterfront.   Perhaps something more causal, but hip?  Try Sam's Anchor Cafe in Tiburon on the weekends.  Go for Antique's in charming San Anselmo.

Heading out doors is always enjoyable here; the nature offers so much.  Horseback riding along Rush creek in Novato is a treat. Kayak central Marin or Tomales Bay, maybe Sail the San Francisco Bay; or if your that type, Kite Surf under the Golden Gate Bridge!  Sign up for the  "escape to Alcatraz" race and swim to Marin!!
